She graduated from the University of Patras in 2016 with a Master’s degree in Architecture, and holds a postgraduate diploma in Sustainable Architecture (ESAP, Porto). Her work is informed by hands-on experience with traditional building techniques, particularly in clay and stone. She has spent four years working on stone constructions in the Mani Peninsula and has contributed as part of the design team to the Vamvakou Revival project. Her practice explores the poetic dimension of architecture, with a focus on materiality, atmosphere, and context. She undertakes projects across scales, from furniture and interior design to private residences and larger building complexes. Its southwest orientation makes it very bright, an aspect which is highlighted through its reflective floor, consisting of Ioannina marble for the interior and Aliveri marble for the balcony. In the bedrooms a warmer feeling is achieved through wooden floors. The request was to design a multi-functional space, consisting of kitchen, dining, office, and&nbsp;living&nbsp;area&nbsp;and at the same time&nbsp;to&nbsp;preserve the void in the center of the room. The preservation of existing infrastructure such as plumbing and wiring was instrumental for the maintenance of a low cost renovation, but at the same time high priority was given to the upgrading of the energy efficiency of the apartment. The complex consists of two identical apartment buildings with a single multi-purpose common area on the ground floor, designed by architect Ioannis Vikelas (1972). In order to meet the modern needs of the owners, it was necessary to remove the interior walls and replace them with new partitions. However, the design principle was to preserve the original basic layout. The&nbsp; basic layout consists of a hall that connects the entrance with the living room and dining room. The rest of the residence is located on either side of the hall. The bedrooms and bathroom face north, while the kitchen, WC, and utility room are located on the south side of the apartment.&nbsp; The existing hallway is narrowed, converted into a corridor, and the extra space is used to create storage areas (wardrobes), built-in furniture with seating at the entrance, and a WC. On the kitchen side, where there used to be a service room, it is removed, and the kitchen space is enlarged to create a coffee area and table. The bedroom side is also redesigned so that each bedroom has its own bathroom, built-in wardrobes, and desk or dressing table. A major advantage of the apartment is its airiness, which is evident in the living room-dining room area. It is a bright and open space on both sides of the building (north and south) with a balcony on each side. The kitchen, bathed in southern light, is a pleasant space and is the first room you see when you enter, as it opens onto the hallway. On the other hand, a small hall separates the bedrooms from the common areas for more privacy. &nbsp; The owners desired a calm and minimalist aesthetic. For this reason, built-in wardrobes, hidden doors, and woodwork in the same off-white shade as the walls were designed. Oak wood was used in furniture and details that we wanted to emphasize, such as the kitchen island and coffee bar, the entrance furniture, the entrance door, etc. The flooring throughout the apartment, except for the bathrooms, was covered with light oak laminate. In the kitchen, a distinctive beige quartz was chosen to complement the earthy palette. The master bedroom followed this color palette, complemented by travertine-look tiles in the bathroom, while the second bedroom was differentiated with a bold blue element in both the woodwork and the bathroom. Glass bricks were used in the bathrooms and WC to illuminate these intermediate spaces where there were no windows. photos by Dimitra Chrysoula This work is about the renovation of a&nbsp; 70 sqm second floor apartment in the Lycabettus area, at the city center of Athens.The owner wanted to merge the south and bright bedroom with the living room, while ensuring that this space could be isolated when hosting guests. She also desired to preserve the apartment’s 70s features (wooden parquet and skirting boards, woodenshutters, Dionysos marble, terrazzo floor in balconies) and frame them with more vibrant choices. We suggested an open-plan layout&nbsp; with the aim of allowing as much natural light as possible into the space. It has large openings to Attica's blue sky.The main goal of the study is to join the two sections into one apartment in order&nbsp;to accommodate the owner and guests when they visit Athens. The study proposes the demolition of a wall&nbsp;inbetween the&nbsp;wardrobes of the two independent sections,&nbsp;and the creation of a passage. The&nbsp;suggested apartment layout is divided into 3 zones, the first zone with the large openings hosts the living room and the&nbsp;kitchen area. In the second intermediate zone the bathroom and the guestroom are placed in a way that keeps the small opening towards the terrace. Finally, in the third zone with openings to the south, the master bedroom is located together&nbsp;with an office-desk and low storage cupboards. In addition a built-in bathtub is created, separated from the rest of the room through transparent&nbsp;glass bricks. Soft green tones, natural oak textures, and muted earthy hues create a calm yet expressive interior, where everyday functions are framed by a sense of intimacy and depth. Custom-built elements—such as the full-height library wall, integrated workspace, and kitchen cabinetry—were designed to bring coherence and character to the space, balancing traditional references with a contemporary clarity. In the bathroom, a softer palette and tactile materials introduce a more delicate, almost nostalgic atmosphere.
